Green Woodcarving: Rooster Stick

Learn to carve a folk-art rooster with a knife and natural materials you can find in your own backyard. Students will learn basic knife skills and safety and leave empowered to carve more roosters at home. The finished rooster is approximately 3 to 4 inches tall depending on the size of the branch. Students can expect to finish two based on their pace.   

Materials Fees: All materials are included with a $5 FEE PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

Carve a Garden Cottage

Carve a miniature garden cottage you can display or gift. Beginning students will learn knife skills, knife safety, and how to carve details in wood. Students with previous carving experience will build upon their carving and detailing knowledge. Time permitting, we will learn basic painting techniques for wood. The finished garden cottage is approximately 3 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide. If students complete their project, there will be additional projects. Nikki will also provide blanks for students to take home and continue their carving skills.

All materials are included with a $20 FEE PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

Celebrate spooky season with a series of Halloween and cryptid themed wood carvings. Carve and paint several projects increasing with difficulty as the week progresses. End the class with a carved moth man that will have wings accented with leaves we forage from campus. Beginning to intermediate students welcome.

Combine two useful skills, carving and weaving, to experience making fiber art with your very own handmade tools! Learn how to carve a rigid heddle and shuttle with simple tools. Then, use your newly carved pieces to weave historical 18th and early 19th-century tape. Hand weave both function and decorative tapes on your handmade rigid heddle and shuttle. All levels welcome.

Carve a Whimsical Mushroom

Learn how to create a whimsical mushroom character using just one woodcarving knife! This workshop will set you up with basic carving techniques to continue this fun skill at home, as well as the woodcarving safety knowledge to continue confidently on your own. Finished mushroom characters will be painted to highlight their personalities.

Lunch Break: There will be a 1-hour lunch break. Bring a lunch or explore local dining options.
